Lp Conversion

In reviewing the manual for my Model 15-B I have learned that numerous modifications are suggested for converting from Nat.Gas to LP including increasing the burner hole sizes, different orifice caps, shallower drip pans modification to the burners etc. Has anyone done this? Looking for a little help. I am also looking at finding a similar model that was set up for LP and salvaging parts. Suggestions appreciated

Hello Aaron,
You have done the right thing. Getting the Service Manual and following it. The conversion is not hard to do, just time consuming. The problem is procuring the parts. Now here is where this Discussion Board comes into play! I would bet that there is a member out there that has a Chambers like yours that wants to convert their stove to another gas. All you have to do is get with that person and swap parts! You send him your LP parts and he sends you his Natural Gas Parts!

Update on conversion information. I have learned that my stove has a universal pin under the orifice cover so there is no need to replace, simply adjust. The consensus from stove repair/restoration shops is that I do not need to swap out the burners nor drip pans nor make any modification to them. Most recommend a secondary (@$30) regulator to assist with the pressure and leave everything else as is.
I will see how this works out.

Unless your "B" was fitted with the universal mixer pins at a later date, which is possible, you do not have them. The "B" series, according to the service manuals, had fixed orifice caps. The "C" series had the universal mixer pins.

Better double check to make sure. . .

I have a Chambers stove - model B - that is set up for Natural gas and I use propane. I would like to swap drip trays (I need the shallow ones) with someone in the opposite situation.

Also, does anyone know how or where to have a warped griddle straightened out?

I'm with Todd on the mixer pin! Look again! Chambers were not a bunch of dummies, they designed their stoves with a lot of thought. There was a technical reason that the drip pans were different depths. I believe it has to do with the BTU's produced with different Gases, the combustion air needed for a good flame and Safety. Do what you want, just BE Careful!
Now, For the warped Griddle: Take that sucker out on the driveway, lay it on a flat piece of wood face down and whap it with a rubber hammer until it is straight. I've had good experience with this AND it is the method prescribed by Chambers per the Model "C" service manual.

Thanks so much for the information. I think I will look tp buy an LP set up B model and swap out the best parts and sel the rest if I cannot put a stove together. This is the exact reason I did not feel like plunkin down $4000 or more for a restored stove. Every shop I called gave me a differnt sales pitch about what they did and what was needed. There was no consistency whatever from one shop to another. They might pretty it up but the technical aspects always seemed lacking. I appreciate all the information.
